About Lumiere
Welcome to Lumiere Dressage, owned and operated by Madison Benicky.
The name Lumiere Dressage was born for both it’s meaning and a nod to honor Pudding On Aires aka “Belle’, a horse who was the heaviest influence in Madison’s Dressage journey. Lumiere itself translates to “light” with the goal of Dressage to be both light on the horse and light-hearted, something that can be very challenging to achieve in today’s fast-paced and high pressure world.
About Madison:
Madison is a lifelong equestrian who discovered Dressage in the early 2000s and the rest was history. She began her competitive career in the Arabian Breed Show circuit, where she is still involved today with goals to return to the AHA competition arena with future riding partners. Her early years were spent in the Hunter Jumper arena and assisting her childhood coach with retraining OTTBs for a variety of new careers. She truly discovered the beauty of Dressage through lessons geared towards improving her riding as a Hunter. In 2013, she hung up her jump tack and dove in head first into Dressage full time.
In 2023, Madison achieved her USDF Bronze Medal on two different mares that she brought up through the levels herself. Pudding On Aires, an Anglo-Arabian mare, came to her after finishing her time as a broodmare and a Hunter in her earlier years. Pudding on Aires partnered with Madison for her First and Second Level scores with no prior formal Dressage education. On Cloud Nine UF+, an Arabian/Oldenburg mare, came to her as a Training Level horse and was brought up by Madison to complete her Bronze at Third Level. Her sights are set on Silver and Gold with Baccari GF, her self-started Swedish Warmblood. She is also branching out into Western Dressage with Arabian, Eldunari. Madison takes pride in earning her USDF medals on horses fully trained by her at the required levels. These medals represent more than competitive achievement to her, but a mark in education and development as a coach and trainer.
About Lumiere’s Training Vision:
While Lumiere Dressage is a Classical and Western Dressage riding program, Lumiere welcomes and is excited to work with rider’s of other disciplines and recreational riders with no interest in ever competing.
Coming from a background in Hunters and a childhood working with horses to find that their unique suited discipline, gave Madison both the passion and perspective to see how Dressage foundational work can improve a horse and rider’s skill regardless of their chosen discipline. Working on Dressage foundational skills can change the way we think and use our bodies and set us apart in a positive way, whether we’re in a Dressage, Jump, or Western saddle.
Madison’s additional background in yoga, and more recently ballet, has largely influenced her approach to coaching. One of the biggest challenges rider’s face in the saddle is their own body. Understanding their unique proportions, center of balance, strengths, and challenges. Madison discovered yoga and ballet through a need for cross training that would develop body awareness and control that translated into the saddle. Madison spent her early riding years as a very determined, but very anxious rider. Cross training and developing strong body awareness gave her the skills and confidence to put that anxiety to rest, (and a deep soft spot for other anxious riders).
She uses these skills both to help riders while in the saddle, but to develop simple, at home exercises for riders to help them improve even on just their own two feet. Madison has completed 100YRT with Universal Yoga with plans to complete her 200 and 300RYT. Whether the challenges a rider is facing are physical or mental, we can work together to conquer it and reach your goals.
